I heard a funny saying about a frog who can be cooked when the temperate goes up slowly... we all have a little bit of tendency to stay in the comfort zone and at the same time a little bit of itch to get out of it. Our body doesn't change it's temperature even though the temperature of the surroundings is changing - it's called thermoregulation. It's so natural, therefore, we'd like to stay in the zone where our body temperature and the that of the surroundings are similar. However, we're created to function better, at least I believe this way, when we are moving around different temperature zones.
I saw how our body reacts to cuts. It's amazing to find out that our body is ready to re-generate cells when some part of our body cells are dead. When we do exercise a lot, we feel sore which is another miracle that's happening in our body to strengthen our muscles to function better at a later time.
When we stay in the comfort zone, however, we may never be able to find what our body is capable of. But the moment we try to get out of the comfort zone, we feel resistance. We feel sore. We feel oozy. We feel dizzy. Sometimes, we feel fear. Fear of failure. Fear of uncertainties. Fear of something. But, that's the problem. Due to this fear, we retract and come back to the comfort zone.
In modern days, it's getting harder and harder to try something uncomfortable. We love "climate control" system in our cars. We set the heater/air-conditioner to 72 degree so we won't feel cold nor hot.
You know what, though. Sooner of later, we find out that the surroundings are changing and ready to give us challenges that we are not ready for while staying in the comfort zone. Our body is not ready to re-produce or adjust to the changes or challenges. We forgot about how to stay calm in 65 degree or 80 degree and we panic. OMG.
Passion is something that we can find when we go out of our comfort zone. Passion is something that gives us a surprise in an seemingly uncomfortable situations. Passion is something that gives us energy that can sustain us through many obstacles and hardships.Think about how gold is refined. Think about how Steve Jobs had been driven to make amazing products. History is made by those who has passion. History will change by those who have passion.
But, again, it all starts when we get up and make one step out of 72 degree zone.
